White Rose Dyslexia Centre is celebrating and

supporting Dyslexia Awareness Week

 

Did you know that;

  • The car, the phone and electricity were all invented by dyslexics
  • 40% of self made millionaires are dyslexic
  • Higher percentage of offenders have dyslexia:not recognised during their education
  • Three quarters of the British public admit to knowing very little or nothing at all about dyslexia
  • Two thirds cling to the view that it is a lfie long learning disability
  • A fifth of people polled think dyslexics just need to work harder to keep up with non-dyslexics
  • Over half of those surveyed think dyslexia is simply about getting letters back to front
  • Recent UK statistics indicate that 14% of 11 year olds fail to reach age expected levels of reading 
  • No connection between dyslexia and intelligence

White Rose Dyslexia staff, Heather Shaw, Vicky Shaw, Jess Simmonite White Rose Dyslexia Centre was established in June 2009 with a specific mission and focus to raise awareness of dyslexia and support businesses, educationalists and the public sector in enabling dyslexics to demonstrate and achieve their potential. 

As well as private individuals seeking assessments, their clients include the NHS, City Councils, Home Office, North Yorkshire Police, Universities, Colleges, Training Providers, Schools and the Prison Service.

The Dyslexia Centre chose to relocate its business to Aizlewood’s Mill at the end of May this year, so to celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Week they are offering half day Dyslexia Awareness training sessions, at no cost, for businesses located within Aizlewood’s Mill.

The events will take place in the Conference Room here on Tuesday 4th December (am) and Thursday 6th December (pm).
