Children in Need 2017

Here at Aizlewood's Mill we love to support charities in any way we can and Children In Need 2017 was no exception. The theme for this years campaign was 'Do what you do' and at The Mill our Reception team love to cook for our tenants. In the past we have done bacon sandwiches for brunch on the barbeque and so for a change we thought we'd do a Baked Potato Lunch for our tenants, warmed through on the barbeque.
We started serving at 12 and offered hot jumbo baked potatoes with a variety of fillings including butter, coleslaw, beans and cheese. Gaynor and John were serving up and keeping warm behind the barbeque, we had a steady stream of customers hungry for their lunch until around 1.30. At £2.50 each it proved a very popular lunch choice and we have raised around £150 towards the charity.
There are a number of charities in the South Yorkshire area that benefit from the funds raised by Children In Need, one of which is Roundabout, which is Sheffield's Youth Homeless Charity, providing shelter, support and life skills to young people age 16-24 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Another charity that benefits from a Children In Need grant is Sheffield Young Carers. They had the following to say about the support they have received in the past;
'We were thrilled to receive a three-year grant from BBC Children In Need earlier this year, which has allowed us to continue running our amazing Action Group- a special group for current (or recent) members of our service who want to have more of a say in running SYC and to speak out on behalf of other young carers.'
There are many more local charities that also benefit from the money raised by BBC Children In Need, all the money we raise today will go directly to this charity. Whatever you do to raise money today, have fun, do your thing and feel proud that you are helping those less fortunate than most of us.
