Biography
What is your favourite Mill memory? In 2012 we had some major work done to our chimney which involved hiring a crane to inspect over the top and inside. The crane went 40 metres high and we were able to take a ride in the viewing basket with the contractors. This was just amazing to be able to go up there and see the building from such a different viewpoint as well as the surrounding areas from a birds eye view. I'm not overly afraid of heights so was able to take it all in. Definitely a memory I won't forget!- What do you do in your spare time? I enjoy running, baking and red wine drinking - not necessarily in that order! Whenever we hold charity bake sales I'm always asked to make my "Mill famous" rocky road and they are always the first things to sell out.
I was recently lucky enough to be offered an allotment, I had been on a waiting list for a number of years so that was a wonderful opporunity to expand my gardening knowledge and dabble in growing my own fruit and vegetables. - What is your greatest achievement? In April 2017 I completed the Paris Marathon with a friend. We'd trained hard for 6 months through the winter and raised £1500 for Macmillan Cancer Charity and The Stroke Association. On the day it was 27 degrees, full sun and it took me 5 hours and 8 minutes to complete. An exhausting but wonderful experience and one that I hope to repeat at some point, just not for a while.
- Your favourite concert? Mumford & Sons, Nottingham 2010. It was a cold winters evening outside but the atmosphere inside was amazing.
- What would you put in Room 101? Spitting, I detest it!
- An easy one - what is your favourite food? That's not easy for me as I more or less like everything. I'll go for Thai Green Curry and a glass of white wine.
- Finally, there are many heritage items on show in Aizlewood's Mill, describe one of them. The flour bag we have on display in reception was donated to us by a lady called Ann Laity who lives in Devon. She found it in her loft whilst clearing out to move home. The bag is labelled "6lb net National Flour Milled by John Aizlewood Ltd Crown Flour Mill Sheffield". Ann said it had been in her family a very long time and thought that it had belonged to her grandparents who lived in Sheffield. We are very grateful that she sent it to us, it's displayed in reception alongside the Ernest Wright scissors commemorating Gordon Brown's visit in 2015.
